3 Tips to Make it Safer when Teaching Race

As teachers and/or facilitators, we cannot guarantee there will be no fear, discomfort, pain, and/or offense when teaching/discussing the topic of race. However, avoidance of the topic is not the answer. Instead, we must create safer spaces for ourselves and our learners that are not too inhibiting while remaining constructively challenging. (Note: I use the term “safer” as it is not possible to ensure 100% safety for everyone at all times, but we must try to do more/better!). This handout includes some recommended methods to make it safer when teaching race. Please fill out the form below to download a copy of the handout!
